What is Medium? That is a good question, especially if you are interested in writing, online business, personal branding, digital ecosystems, or simply using the internet for more than scrolling.
Today, I published my first post on Medium.
That felt like a good opportunity to share the article with you, but also to briefly explain what Medium actually is and why I decided to start using it.
Medium is an online publishing platform where writers, creators, entrepreneurs, professionals, and independent thinkers can publish articles and reach a wider reading audience.
It was launched in 2012 by Evan Williams, a co-founder of Twitter and Blogger, andis based in San Francisco.
What Is Medium and How Does It Work?
In simple terms, Medium is a place for reading and writing.
You can publish for free.
Readers can access many articles freely, while some “member-only” stories are limited unless the reader has a Medium Membership.
Medium also has a Partner Program, which means writers can earn from eligible stories based on member engagement.
But for me, the first step is not about monetization.
It is about publishing.
Sharing ideas.
Testing another platform.
And placing my thoughts in front of people who are already there to read.
According to Semrush data from January 2026, Medium.com was still receiving more than 100 million monthly visits, with a large share of traffic coming from Google organic search.
That tells me something important.
Medium is not just another social platform.

It is also a discovery platform for written ideas.
My first article there is called:
The Internet Is More Than a Place to Scroll
The idea is simple.
Most of us spend hours online every day.
We scroll.
Watch.
React.
Consume.
But the internet can also be used to build something.
A website.
A newsletter.
A community.
A body of useful content.
A digital asset.
A business.
That is the message behind the article.
You can read it here:
I will still keep my main digital home at filipdoric.com.
But Medium may become one more place where I share thoughts about online business, digital tools, websites, affiliate marketing, ecommerce, digital ecosystems, and the changing way we build online.
Because again:
The internet is more than a place to scroll.
And Medium is one more reminder that writing online still matters.
