Do You Really Need a Website to Build Your Online Presence? Let’s Think, McFly!

🌀 Okay… time to bring some clarity. Think, McFly, think! 🌀

“Hello, anybody home? Think, McFly, think!” – A classic movie moment reminding us to question online business advice.

If you’ve been in the online business space lately, you’ve probably asked yourself:
Do you really need a website to build your online presence?

Some coaches will tell you:
“You don’t need a website to sell digital products.”

At first, that sounds exciting — one less thing to worry about.

But then the same people will turn around and say:
“You need a funnel. An email list. A landing page. Maybe even a thank-you page.”

🤔 Let’s pause here.

Funnels vs. Websites: What’s the Real Difference?

What is a funnel made of?
➡️ A series of web pages.

Yes, pages. The same thing us “old-fashioned” folks still call: a website.

And what does a website consist of?
➡️ Pages. Landing pages, thank-you pages, about pages, sales pages — all the things they say you “don’t need.”

So here’s the truth:
✅ Can you run a business without a full website? Yes.
✅ Are funnels, landing pages, and emails useful? Absolutely.
✅ But do they often live on a website? Bingo.

Websites aren’t dead. They’ve simply evolved.

Why Your Online Presence Shouldn’t Rely on One Platform

Here’s where my own story comes in.

For years, Facebook was my favorite online space.
I loved its multimedia approach — posts, videos, groups — everything in one place. I built connections there, even starting from scratch with a business page and a Facebook group.

And then… things changed.
Recently, my account ended up under review by Meta. I still don’t know what the final outcome will be. (read more about it here: Someone Cloned My Facebook Account: What Happened After)

Which raises the real question:

👉 What if you built your entire online presence on one platform, and the same thing happened to you?

That’s why building your online presence on just social media (especially just one social media only) is risky.

The Handkerchief Dress Problem

I agree — online business is not about picking your handkerchief dress and hoping it fits every occasion.

And the same goes for your digital strategy: you don’t want to rely on only one platform.

Social media is powerful. It’s a great starting point. But when it’s your only point, you’re building on rented land. If the rules change overnight, your business can vanish.

Why You Still Need a Website in 2025

A website is your digital home base.
It’s the one place that’s not controlled by algorithms, suspensions, or sudden platform changes.

On your website:

  • You own the space.
  • You guide the visitor’s journey.
  • You connect funnels, landing pages, and email lists in one ecosystem.
  • And most importantly, you build a newsletter audience that’s yours — not the platform’s.

This is how you create stability in your online presence.

Build Smart. Build Clear.

So, do you really need a website to build your online presence?
👉 My answer: Yes, if you want long-term stability.

Social media is great for connection and visibility. But your website is where the real foundation lives.
